| Mitsubishi TVs BEWARE!! | Chasmo Nov 29, 2001 6:45 PM | | Just to let you all know like most people who visit this site you more then likely shop over the internet. I purchased a Mitsubishi TV over the internet a WS65819 to be percise. I tried to get warranty service for the TV and Mitsubishi flat out refused to sevice the TV since they said I purchased it from an unauthorised dealer. They did not even ask who the dealer was what the serial number of the tv anything like that. I just told them I purchased it over the internet. This is obviously an attack by Mitsubishi to stop people from buying their products accept at retail outlets which gives shoppers of the internet a black eye. BTW I noticed Mitsubishi totally reworked their internet site which says that they are not bashful about advertising over the internet they just do not want people to save money by purchasing things over the internet. |
| Caveat Emptor...and a few pointed comments... | googoo Nov 29, 2001 8:56 PM | | Buying something as enormous and as sensitive to handling as a 65" bigscreen on-line is an EXTREMELY risky proposition, and the problems you are experiencing may be directly related to the drop-shipping of this behemoth. I hope you at least went to an authorized dealer to view the set and came back with the internet price-dealers will often meet you half way. I hope you also posted your interest to buy a 65" set on-line in a message board such as this one-if I had read such a post I would have strongly suggested that you not take this gamble. Also, your characterization of Mitsubishi policy of not offering warranty service on unathorized sales as some sort of "attack" is devoid of both substance and logic. Why the heck would any company honor a warranty when they do not directly supply the sets to the retailer, do not know how they are handled while stored, and have no idea how they are being shipped to the customer? Did you even ask if the set came with the manufacturer's warranty? And after reading your last comment and its suggestion of some sort of hypocracy on their part, I'm almost glad your set broke. You're in fully whining mode now, which is unfortunate. But if you did a little more homework prior to taking this risk, I imagine someone here could have talked you out of this unguided leap of faith. By the way, the WS65819 is a killer set. I know. I sell them. From an authorized dealer. As a company we've sold over 500 platinum plus set of this type since it's introduction a few months ago. I see on my other screen that precisely eleven of them currently reside in our service department. And I bet the majority of those were damaged by our home delivery staff. Every one of those customers whose set was damaged upon delivery or had some sort of problem shortly after delivery have a fresh, perfectly functioning set in their homes now. I know it's too late for you now, but I hope your post and my response, taken in tandem, give the the yings and the yans the info they should consider before making such decisions. |
| FYI.... | DBNY Nov 30, 2001 11:00 PM | | Mostly all high-end A/V manufacturers will not honor warrantees on their products purchased from an unauthorized dealer. Mitsubishi isn't the only one. |
