| Starting new system with an Onkyo Integra DTR 5.1 | philiog Nov 30, 2001 5:29 AM | | I was told that the Integra line of Onkyo was their premium line. If this is true has anyone had experience with the Integra line and would the Onkyo Integra DTR 5.1 be a good buy at $399.00 for someone just getting into HT? I also have heard that their remotes were much harder to program and not as intuitive as others. Not a big deal but I want to make sure that this is a decent receiver for a starter and not something that I will have wished I hadn't bought. Thanks for any help. |

"Most companies differentiate between their entry-level pieces and their high-end products. For example, Sony has their Elevated Standard (ES) line, and Pioneer has their Elite line. The Integra line is a little different in that it was started by Onkyo, but it is a separate company that does not have the Onkyo name on it at all.
The benefits of Integra are 3 year parts and labor warranty, upgraded power supply, hand selected critical parts, heavy-gauge detachable cord, gold-plated jacks, multi-room remote input, and enhanced cosmetics such as a brighter display and sculpted faceplate."
I have the Onkyo 575x...the DTR-5.1's counterpart, and love every bit of it. Who ever told you the remote was counter intuitive, they're mistaken. It's actually quite awesome! (backlit and learning). You can't go wrong at $400. |

Whoever said this is a little off. Onkyo just spun off Integra, yes, but it still owns it. Go to www.gspr.com to see the back of Integra models, you will see "Integra Division of Onkyo Corporation" on the back. Really all they did is change the business setup a bit and remove "Onkyo" from the front of the machines. Interestingly, the European model 898 still says "Onkyo Integra" on the front. And it is slightly different than both the US 898 and the 8.2.
Another division is called "Integra Research", they have 3 products so far, all matching up with similar Onkyo and Integra models. |
