will cable tv ever catch up?ptt660

i had the opportunity recently to view two hdtv's at the homes of two friend's of mine. they both like their sets(mitsu and panasonic). however they both complained about the picture quality when using cable. i totally agree with their views. when viewing both sets using cable, the close-up shots were okay but the long range views were blurry and seemed to be out of focus. and these sets were both being fed digital cable. the pictures were simply not very enjoyable to watch. this occured for movies and pro football games. now, the picture quality with the dish and hd antenna was great. dvd's were just super. my enthusiasm for purchasing an hdtv has now been tempered somewhat because of my reliance on cable. i live in an apartment without a balcony, so an hd antenna or dish is out of the question. it seems that current video display technology has left cable tv in the dust! i remember roughly 20 years ago when i thought cable tv was the best thing since sliced bread. much better than rabbit ears! these cable companies better get their act together soon before the majority of people own these hdtv sets. we will not stand for this kind of picture quality on an hdtv that demands a far cleaner signal to show it's full potential. so what's up guys? is anything coming down the pike for us cable suscribers to make us feel optimistic? will cable companies come up with a better signal to send thru a "wire" into your home? digital cable as it is now won't cut it! thanks in advance for your input.
When cable co's are informed why going to satyogo

Don't know about sat (yet) but my cable signal really sucks. If I'm recieving digital cable why do all other inputs, including VCR, look so much better. I'm watching football more and more lately and the long shot views are just terrible. I realize that the cable co is only feeding us what they are fed but in some cases I know they are fed a much better signal than I am getting. They replaced the fiber optic cable a few years ago....didn't help. I'm running s-video, also.

Would like to be running digital audio from cable but half the channels are digital and half are analog. I can switch back and forth on my reciever setup using my remote for movies and music channels but thats a pain and if I forget to be sure things are set back to analog when I'm done and my honey (Queen of the Roller Derby) wants to watch the tube while I'm gone and half the channels don't have audio, well, I'm afraid she might try to turn me into a girl.

Is the satellite audio signal purely digital? Be honest, please say yes as a yes from the experts would be a good selling point ;)
