should I connect the sub using the sub pre-out? will this give all the low frequencies from all five speakers plus LFE? What is the crossover?
By the way what are the other pre-outs (surround, center, left and right) used for?

No other options then large or small except you can run front channel bass to your LFE sub at the same time if you had large speakers up front. Yes use the sub pre-out for your subwoofer. The rest of the pre-outs are if you want to use a out board amp if you feel the receiver is not powerful enough for your aplication. This is a wonderful receiver.
