| Please someHelp choosing a receiver | C. Bennett Jan 10, 2002 7:23 PM | | I am in the market for a new receiver to upgrade to. I have an old Kenwood 5580. I am looking in the lower price ranges(about$300) so Marantz and Carver stuff is out. I have looked at Harmon/Kardon,Denon,Kenwood,Pioneer,Onkyo,Sony,Yamaha. I am leaning towards the Denon 1602. Nothing in this price range seems to compare. The local Stereo shope guy has Onkyo,Kenwood,Denon and has really talked up the Denon He sells it for $399 but ive seen it on the web for $300 and that includes shipping. Am I overlooking and nice receivers that have better or more features on them? I don't want to find out after I bought the Denon that I could have had another Receiver that was better for the same money I need all your oppinions.I just want to be sure this local guy is not giving me the old Jedi mind trick by talking me into something just because he sells it either(though id buy it for $100 less off the web than from him). |

| re: Please someHelp choosing a receiver | AVMASTER Jan 10, 2002 7:54 PM | | there are only two companies authorized to sell denon on the web, cruchfield and the good guys. anybody else and you're out of a warranty(among a host of other things!). since you've owned a kenwood why not stick with what your familiar with. the ar410 has been discontinued but there are so many ( brand new) still around its' replacement is being held up(no one orders new until they get rid of old). anyway, at $399 you get 100wpc, ac3, dts, cs5.1, 2 opt., 2 coax,5 s-video, front s-video, 5 dsp modes, bass management, pre-outs for ALL channels, a RF LEARNING REMOTE CONTROL,EASY TO USE AND GOOD SOUND!!!! WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT?(don't answer that) |
| re: Please someHelp choosing a receiver | Robert6164 Jan 10, 2002 10:37 PM | | Does the Kenwood you are talking about have Pro Logic II? I don't know where you're shopping, but local Authorized Denon dealers are selling the 1802 for $349. If you buy the 1602 for $399 you're getting robbed!!! |
| re: Please someHelp choosing a receiver | C. Bennett Jan 11, 2002 5:08 AM | | No Robert6164 I don't think the Kenwood has the DolbyII, I am not sure it even has 5 chanell stereo as I have seen no mention of it in reveiws. I have the local shop guy who sells the Denon for $399, I know it is high. I have seen them from around$320-349 that will still have the factory warranty. I'm trying to talk the guy down but he acts like if I dont get it from him I won't get it anywhere and have a warranty. I know he is wrong but its hard convincing him other wise. I wont pay over $349 for it thats for sure. I don't see much else in this price rnage that has what I want and that is:70 watts/channel,Dolby digital,DTS,Dolby pro logic II,5 channel stereo. I'm not worried about the remote I am still not too lazy to actually move to change things on the Receiver and the watage if over 50 is ok. If anyone knows an amp except the Denon 1602 that has all these features let me know.(in the $300-400 range. |
| re: Please someHelp choosing a receiver | Robert6164 Jan 11, 2002 7:44 AM | | I'm just curious about how many dealers there are in your area, where do you live? |
| re: Please someHelp choosing a receiver | C Bennett Jan 10, 2002 8:06 PM | | I don't think the Kenwood has the 5 chanel stereo like the Denon has. My old Kenwood has the 3 chanel stereo but I did not see where it said the 410 had the 5 chanel. I may have to look again to be sure |
| re: Please someHelp choosing a receiver | KPL Jan 12, 2002 7:09 AM | | The Denon is a good choice. But you still could get a Marantz if you spend a little bit of time searching the internet. I bought my Marantz at elegantaudiovideo.com. He also carries Denon and would be more than glad to help you decie which is the right one for you as well as offering very competitive pricing. |
| re: Please someHelp choosing a receiver | C Bennett Jan 12, 2002 7:49 AM | | I will go check out that web site KPL thanks! I looked at Marantz too but at a dealer and they always are expensive at least $100 or so more than ive found on the net. But then you get into the warranty thing. I just dont know what to do go with the extra money and buy at a dealer or get it $100 cheaper on the net and spend the extra $100 on a sub or surround speakers. |
