| U-571 Depth Charge scene | Robert6164 Jan 10, 2002 10:41 PM | | Ok everyone knows about the scene I'm talking about. Great DVD for auditioning subs. What other flicks are out there that would test a speakers limit or goods? |
| Try these | Voodooloo Jan 10, 2002 10:54 PM | | The Haunting (DTS)
Gladiator (DTS) |
| Try these | Barn4th Jan 11, 2002 1:43 AM | | It's a short scene, but one that blew my receiver.
Die Hard (the scene with the explosives in the chair dropped down the elevator shaft) Try that. |
| Any Jurrasic Park DVD. | HTguy Jan 10, 2002 11:50 PM | | I like the first one, where you can see the ripples in the glass of water in the car, you know the scene. It feels like the T-Rex is right outside my house. Or Top Gun, an oldie but goodie, you feel like you're on the flight deck. |
| Any Jurrasic Park DVD. | kelsci Jan 11, 2002 12:20 AM | | I read some time ago that a corrected DTS version of Jurassic Park 1 from UNIVERSAL restored the LFE effects properly for that film. |
| Pearl Harbor | sgs Jan 11, 2002 4:23 AM | | From chapter 20 and on is good stuff in DTS. An especially good scene to know your sub is set properly is when Cuba Gooding is firing the anti-aircraft gun. I first watched this at my brothers house and each bullet felt like it hit me in the gut. I played it on my own system and was disappointed, a few minor changes to the crossover made the difference. I didn't realize how much boom I had. For those that crank their subs up all the way thinking it sounds great....turn it down, boom is bad. |

1st 20 minutes of SPR.
JP3
1st 5-10 minutes of TS2. |
| Additionally | Bryan Jan 11, 2002 1:14 PM | | Twister - Any of the tornado scenes. Great for effects! |
| re: U-571 Depth Charge scene | jjmcgraw Jan 11, 2002 7:06 AM | | "The Patriot" - cannon fire is similar to the depth charges in U-571.
"The Fast and The Furious" - terrible movie but great sounds, IMO (DTS).
"Blow" - believe it or not this movie has a cool "bass line" that comes and goes throughout the movie.
"Traffic" - also has some good bass lines.
"The Mummy" (DTS)
"The Matrix" - the lobby shootout scene.
I also agree with the other movies mentioned in these posts. |
| One you all missed | recoveryone Jan 11, 2002 9:01 AM | | The first 5 min of Rules of Engagement, the jungle scene, it goes from real quiet low whisper to loud mortor and weapons firing |
| re: U-571 Depth Charge scene | paulbl Jan 11, 2002 9:31 AM | | I'm a big fan of the IMAX DVD's. I have The Dream is Alive, Super Speedway, and Blue Planet, all of which have great sound (great foley effect in the surrounds as well). I have yet to hear a DVD that works a sub better than the Space Shuttle blast off scenes in The Dream is Alive (esp. the second one). |
| re: U-571 Depth Charge scene | ned Jan 11, 2002 9:40 AM | | Saving Private Ryan the beach scene rocks! |
| big bass | jefflam79 Jan 11, 2002 12:29 PM | | Everyone is forgetting EpisodeI TPM, THX intro and the Pod Race scene.
Another huge one I think everyone missed was Toy Story 2 intro scene. Some of the lowest bass on a dvd.
Others I like:
Matrix: Mini-Gun
SPR DTS of course
U571
There's lot's of heavy soundtracks out there, find one you enjoy a lot and use that as your referrence disc. I currently use TS2 and TPM. |
| re: U-571 Depth Charge scene | Bullit Jan 11, 2002 8:08 PM | | How about Fleetwood Mac the Dance DVD lots of bass |
| re: U-571 Depth Charge scene | TJW Jan 11, 2002 10:47 PM | | Everybody needs to check out The Fast And The Furious. Has both Dolby 5.1 and DTS 5.1. This (I think) is going to be the new Reference DVD. In the DTS mode there is so much sound coming at you from all directions that it's mind-blowing. The bass is so loud I had to turn my SVS down a couple of notches (I had already run two of the four of us watching the movie out of the room). If you really want to see what your audio system can do, check this one out. |
