NEED HELP: Pioneer DV-C503 vs. Panasonic DVD-CV51tsmith
Aug 14, 2001 5:23 AM
Hey all,

I'm purchasing an entry-level player to pair up with my Denon AVR-2801, JBL ND-310s, and a Sharp 27" TV. I'm looking at 5-disc changers that must be able to play CD-R/RW, and playing mp3s is a bonus.

I've been able to read reviews here on AR for the Pioneer, but not for the Panasonic. I've been able to do a quick demo of the Panasonic in-store, but not the Pioneer (the remote was missing/stolen). The Panasonic seems to have quite a good menu system with a lot of options, but I don't know how this compares to the Pioneer.

Can anyone give some input on your experiences with these players? Also, feel free to suggest other players in the sub $350 range. I'll likely end up picking up both units and demoing them for the weekend, then taking back the loser.

Thanks in advance,
Tyler

p.s. here are the players' links:

Toshiba SD2705. Under $250. Does it all.Josh Studrawa

Did not see it yet, but saw it's base: the SD2700, and it's very nice.

I really think people ought to mention the Toshiba whenever they mention that Panasonic in recommendations. I'm getting a bit weary of having to be the sole Champion of Toshiba DVD around here. :)
Toshiba SD2715. Does a little bit more.tsmith

The Toshiba website shows the 2715, and it looks like it adds mp3 playback. I'd be willing to pay $30 or $40 more for that.

Sorry, SD2715 was what I meant. (nt)Josh Studrawa

The non-progressive scan 503 may be "alright" but I had nothing but grief from the DVC-603 which is now going on its second month in the shop. I'll never, ever buy Pioneer again.
