HOME THEATER SYSTEMS (BOXED)Rick10up

I have a limit of 700.00 to spend on a system. My needs are for both
movies and music listening. Can some folks recomend some quality, entry level stuff? If it will be helpful in your advice, I can live without a DVD player. I guess the most important things would be speakers & reciever?? Thanks a bunch.

The new Kenwood HTBs should be right up your alley. A decent receiver (the new ones have Pro-Logic II), and good speakers. The HTB 504 goes for around $450. For a DVD player, check out the awesome Panasonic DVD-RV31 for about $180.

Or if you wanna skip the DVD player for a while, you can get an Onkyo 595 ($350 at authorized dealers, call them), JBL NSP1 speaker package ($269 at bestpriceaudiovideo.com) and a sony SA-WM40 for $200 at bestbuy, or price match for lower at sears.

I just put together a relatively inexpensive system for my bedroom. Here's what I got, where I got it, and the price.

SPEAKERS: Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble IV HT/www.ebay.com/$99 refurbished, w/10 year warranty(plenty of them go for this price, I hope you have heard these or can take a listen so you will believe me). These probably pack the most sound for the money in any price range. I would easily pay up to 3X as much for them. They also have a high WAF due to the small size. The sub will amaze you at first because it's so small but then you'll realize it is just good enough to get buy I would probably add the Sony SA-WM40 $199(cheaper on ebay).

RECIEVER: ONKYO TX-DS484/www.ubid.com/$129 refurbished with 1 year warranty. Very good sound quality but don't let the power rating fool you I replaced a JVC receiver with a quoted 100 w/per channel but the Onkyo's 55 w/per channel was clearly more powerful, cleaner, and more dynamic.

DVD PLAYER: ONKYO DV-S535/www.ubid.com/$109 refurbished with 1 year warranty. I replaced a Panasonic DVD-A110(gave to parents), I thought it would just be a bit better with darker colors but was I wrong. I was blown away with the picture quality. It's close to the quality of some that are around the $1k I saw.(It's also my cd player, also sounds excellent).
If I had to buy a DVD player retail I would probably go with the Panasonic DVD-RV31.

With the recommened items Cambridge speakers, Onkyo receiver and dvd player, and the Sony sub this puts you at $539 with money left over to cover shipping, wires, some DVD's, and if you want you can send money my way for the recommedations, haha just kidding. Good luck.
Was at BB today Sony SA-WM40 on sale $150 (nt)NickG
