Audio And Video DAC In DVD PlayersBob Smith

In Australia, currently considering two DVD players. One is Toshiba SD-1300 single disk player. Other is Sony DVPNC600 5 disc player.

The Sony has a 54MHZ/10-bit video DAC, while the Toshiba has a 27MHZ/10-bit video DAC.

But the Sony has a 96KHZ/24-bit audio DAC, while the Toshiba has a 192KHZ/24-bit audio DAC.

I am interested to how these different specs effect sound or image. I have Yamaha RXV-620 amp.

Both can play CD-R/CD-RW. Only the Toshiba can play MP3, would I ever use this?

Are multi-disc DVD players more troublesome due to extra mechanics?

Continue.

Currently do not have a CD player at all and wish to use DVD player for both CD and DVD.

Bob:
Although you're likely to get a response from somebody telling you that one or the other of these DACs make a big difference in performance, my opinion is that they're pretty much irrelevant.

Pick out whatever player reaches out and grabs you - without giving any undue consideration to the marketing hype that accompany them.

Hope this helps you

Keep in mind that if you will only be listening by connecting the DVD player to your receiver via optical or coaxial connection, you will not be hearing the DVD's audio DAC's at all - you will be hearing your receiver's DAC's. For audio CD's, you could connect the analogue L/R outputs to your CD input on the receiver - then if you select "CD" on the receiver you will be hearing the DVD's audio DAC's.
