Zoom is a feature/toy. Like frame by frame or picture in picture. It's added cuz they can. Necessary? By no means. I doubt it was added to max a 16x9 to be easier to see. Just a feature you can tout when you market a product.

And...

"If you're wondering why I don't get a bigger TV or widescreen, it's the price. A widescreen/large TV can cost 1/3 the price of a brand new car. "

Stay out of Bang & Olufsen.

Or it CAN cost you $1000. Up to you.
Zoom is definitely an advantageyawn

I have a 32 " Wega and my DVD player (Onkyo) has the zoom feature. I did no plan on using it when I bought the player but these days I find I use it a lot at Zoom1 1.

I use the 16:9 feature on the TV and then zoom. This way, even with zoom, the picture resolution is better than what you would get on a TV without the "squeeze".

To me its definitely worth having.
