How much diff will I notice2 channel

I currently have a Yamaha HTR 5150 paired with Klipsch synergy series all the way around. I am thinking of going with the Marantz SR 5000. Is this an upgrade or just a lateral move? My movie mucis ratio is 75% movie 25% music

Thanks!

I'm fairly confident that this will hold true; you will certainly notice a fairly big difference. While I'm very familar with the brands you mention based, the model numbers don't match up so you might not notice as big a difference as I did.

I found the Marantz certainly does possess a very 'warm' sound, even when mated with Klipsch speakers. I've heard several reasons why this can't happen over the past couple of years and yet everyone in my living room heard it. Some folks like it, I didn't. To me the warmth equated to 'dull'. I should also note that my opinions are based on 2 channel music playback. I honestly had great difficulty finding noticeable differences on movies.

I can't say whether this would be an upgrade or not. I do feel confident however that if you are looking for a change, the Marantz 5000 will offer the biggest difference in sound in that price range. Whether or not it's better can only be determined by you.

For an even more personal unsolicted opinion, if I were you I'd look at moving up to the RF-3's for mains (assuming you like the Klipsch sound), and then maybe you could get that pathetic 25% music ratio up to a respectable number. 25%? You should change the moniker to 5 Channel! I really believe that the better the speakers, the more music you will find time to listen to.

For what it's worth.

bigger difference in sound with almost always be garnered from a speaker change over a receiver change.
c'mon Jim give me a little more credit...2 channel

Let me clarify,
25% is THAT system's musical usage. My 2 CHANNEL listentng is in my bedroom and it is 100% music. It is vintage Kenwood w/ a NAD cd player and mostly listened to through Sennheiser HD 600's, although I do have a pair of Kenwood somethin or other speakers.

so sorry for the confusion!

I know you listen at work (I'm not telling)so I didn't give you too much grief. I was surprised by the 25%, I guess that 'splains everything.
