JVC, Panny, or Mitsu??Ned Head

Well,

If you read any reviews, the Panny's get pretty good reviews for their VCR's. While not liking JVC's build and weight, it is interesting to note that both Panny and JVC are owned by the same parent company...how much that seperates the "guts" of these units is unknown to me...anyone else know? They could be the same guts in a different shell or an altogether different build, I would be curious to know if any know more on this.

I have no real experience with the Mitsu's, so I decline to comment on that brand.

Funny, never new that until now.

Totally different. I owned the Panasonic 9670 S-VHS VCR, I own a standard VHS Panasonic VCR, and I own a JVC 5900 S-VHS VCR.

I've seen most VCRs and I have to say that Panasonic and JVC are the best. I've been a long time supporter of Panasonic VCRs because the vastly superior performance. However, my new JVC 5900 blows away my older S-VHS Panasonic 9670(read my reviews in the VCR review section). The JVC has noticibly less noise or less grain. It's picture is simply smoother and closer to a more stable digital picture than the jittery, inherently noisy VHS mode, whether super or standard. The JVC has a video calibration which helps a great deal. Without it, you can see grain. Even so without calibration set in, it's picture is still better than the more expensive Panasonic. That's just how good the JVC is.

JVC and Panasonic are as different as a company as one could get. I've found JVC to exceed Panasonic in performance on about everything EXCEPT DVD players(for which I never compared). Panasonic is known to have some of the best DVD players that don't include the famous chroma bug. All of my video gear is Panasonic or JVC. For cheaper bedroom video gear, it's magnavox for it's good performance to dollar ratio.
Buy the JVCNorm Strong

Then remove the bottom panel and substitute a piece of 1/4" sheet steel. This will give the JVC that solid manly feeling that you need.
