Carver C1000... good receiver?crashgrover

As my earlier posts show, I've been looking for a new receiver in the 1k-1.4k range. Someone mentioned the C1000 as a good receiver, and I've been looking for some more information on it with little luck. I'm using it for about 70/30 music/movies, and don't need a lot of dsps or extras. Phono inputs would be a plus. My local audio guy says that Carver products aren't very good, so I'm checking out his claim. If anyone has any info I would really appreciate it- thanks!

Auditioned so far? You have a pretty respectable budget to buy a good receiver and you want it more for music. What exactly was you local audio guy saying about the Carver? Did he talk about sound quality or overall quality of the receiver?
What you should be doing is auditioning as many receivers as possible and then make up your mind. If I were you, I would stick to Marantz as they are good for music. For about the money you have to spend, you can get a good Marantz receiver and be happy.

... your local audio guy doesn't sell Carver, but sells something else that he thinks is much better? Most salespeople want to make a sale, and they tend to say bad things about whatever they do not sell. Here are some reviews of the Carver C1000:

I own some Carver equipment, but not the C1000, and have not even seen one, so I have no opinion about it in particular. But generally speaking, I think Carver tends to be a decent value at its price point. You can also look at reviews of other equipment at this site.

i owned the c1000 for a while and only got rid of it becasue i wanted to get into 6.1 and in all honesty it had way too much power for my klipsch rf3. your local audio guy is on crack, becasue carver amps have always been known for boasting lots of clean power. BTW ask him is he reccomend sunfire products, since they are Bob's design :)

I had a Carver AVR 100 when it first came out and it kicked @ss. Carver has been known for inovations and great clear power. Great for music. I know there are other Amps out there someone said Marantz and thats a great Amp too. I agree with the other poster Your hometown audio guy probably does not sell Carver and is trying to steer you towards something in a line he carries. My advice is just like speaker advice. Find someone in say a hour to 2 hour radius and go audition the amp you want. When you are dropping alot of money take your time and shop around. But Yes Carver is good that guy is on crack if he says different.

I have a Carver 885.1 H/T receiver, what a great piece of work.
That was the last receiver Carver made prior to going to the Sunfire
line, but are now back to making products under the Carver name again.
Unfortunately they have been slow out of the gate to make a wide range
of receivers like Denon,Integra,Marantz etc. do and any product they make is out of the average person's price point.
It is too bad because Bob Carver is an Amplifier Pioneer!!!!
I am hoping for a wider product range in the future.
If you can afford the c1000 you cannot go wrong.

INdeed, Carvers amps are tailor made for HT. I use a trio of TFM55s to run my HT rig and love 'em. Arguably not the bst music amp by a long shot BUT the power they dole out for HT is awesome. The only other amps I have seen trounce my 55s (save other of Bobs products) are the Crown K2s I use for my subs.
