| re: Nick, how goes the comparison? 3801/898 (nt) | nick4433 Jan 11, 2002 8:25 AM | | Beerme1, I recently had the 3802 in my house again because I was going to do a 3 way test with the 898/3802/DA5ES. However, the DA5ES did not come through. However, between the 898 and the 3802, I clearly liked the open sound quality of the 898 as the 3802 was more forward sounding. The 898 sounded silky smooth(?) and clean. I decided to push the 898 higher and higher and it never clipped or strained and the 3802 did not either. However, at very loud volumes, the 898 still sounded very clean. I have been listening to the 898 for about 2 months now and I thnk it's all a matter of getting used to a particular sound. I believe ths year the only upgrade for me would be an addition of a 5 channel amp. |

You are correct in that it does produce very clean sound, even CRANKED :) I think like any other receiver, it has it's quirks. And there are some things that someone such as yourself (Denon man) will have to get acustomed to, but i tell ya, this thing really is a top shelf product. Now did I say Denon? I probably meant Mennin :) Please humour me if you would, why the need for a 5 ch. amp? |

I'm sure I have a few DVD's in my collection that are only there for the purpose of a few scenes or so. I mean really, you ever try to follow the plot in a porno? :) |
