| Need advice - Pro Logic issues with Dish Network | JohnnyMac Jan 11, 2002 12:13 PM | | Ever since I started using Dish Network, i've been having an on and off problem with Dolby Pro Logic on most of the channels. When listening to a program with the DPL decoder on (Yamaha RX-V1000), I will hear the center channel fine but the fronts and surrounds sound weak and garbled, kind of like they are underwater. This happens on programs i'm sure are broadcast in Dolby Surround, such as the Simpsons and most prime time sicoms.
On the other hand, channels like HBO and the music channels always work great. I get a good, clear signal out of all speakers.
I have a brand new Dish 500 with a Dish Pro 301 reciever. All of the cable is brand new and the proper gauge with no splices. I get at least a 91 signal on both satellites.
Any thoughts on why this could be happening?

If the sound in stereo is fine, the problem would have to be somewhere other than the Dish receiver. If the stereo is also bad, your Dish receiver may have a problem. Are you running a digital signal from the Dish receiver to the Yammi? If not, try it and see if you get any improvent. If you do, the problem is probably in the Yammi. If you are using the digital connections, try the analog outputs of the Dish receiver. The sound from my Dish receiver's analog outputs is usually aweful, but not as bad as you describe. I attribute this to poor DACs in the Dish receiver, or perhaps lousy bandwidth allocation for the audio signal from Dish Network. If you're Dish 500 is under warranty, address the problem now. My piece of crap JVC Dish 500 player is always messing up. It's just a piece of junk - poorly made and unreliable. |
