| A decent set of HT speakers/sub for around 1000/1200 ??? | Miron88 Feb 21, 2002 11:19 AM | | I'm looking to upgrade my existing prologic HT and have narrowed down my receiver to either the Onkyo 595 or the denon 1802.
Can someone please give me a suggestion to a decent speaker setup for around 1000/1200?
I will need 2 front, center, 2 rear and sub.
Then when I narrow down my speakers I will listen to them with my 2 choices of receivers to see which I like best.
Thanks. |

For direct companies, look at Ascend Acoustics, Axiom Audio, Home Theater Direct, nOrh, Adire Audio, and HSU.
My personal preference would be to go with the ceramic nOrh 4.0 package and Adire Audio Rava or HSU VTF-2 but that will run you around $1,250 - $1,300. |

| re: A decent set of HT speakers/sub for around 1000/1200 ??? | Rai Feb 21, 2002 12:27 PM | | I reciently purchased a 5.1 system from Ascend acoustics with 2 170's three 200's and a HSU sub for arouns $1200. I had to wait around three weeks to recieve the sub but I am completely satisfied with the system. Everything sounds great. I have an Outlaw 1050 ,I'd recomend you look at this reciever although it may be out of your price range ($499 plus S/H). I'm not sure if the ascends would sound as good with less power as they are 4 ohms. I know the outlaw is only rated at 65 watts but it is strong. |

- Ascend acoustics 5.1 pkg (with the hsu sub) from
www.ascendacoustics.com. they have a sale rite now, looks like its 5% off and no shiipping. so it comes to about $1100. if u get these then also get the rear speaker mounts for ~30. they go very well with it.
- Swan Diva 4.1 pkg (1pair 4.1 mains, C3 center channel, and a pair of 2.1 sorrounds, no sub) u could buy the hsu sub with this but that would push the pirce up to 1600, but u wont regret it. u can even add the sub later. www.av123.com/popup.html
i have the Ascend system and it sounds great.

| Take a look at Klipsch.... | Debbi Feb 21, 2002 3:19 PM | | Go to namebranz.com and look at the reference line. Rb511 fronts-529.00, rc3 center 259.00, Rs3 rears 375.00. And look at a sony wm40 sub for 150+ at cc or anywhere in lieu of the Klipsch 12inch which I own and you will have a system for about 1,300.00. Two advantages of Klipsch are that you can probably hear them locally vs mail order speakers and they are very efficient(high spl) so that they produce a lot of sound with a modest amplifier. The reference line is fairly well respected here and elsewhere. Some local dealer will deal with Klipsch on the internet price where other dealers will not. |
| don't forget about NHT either | numznutz Feb 21, 2002 3:23 PM | | 4 superones, supercenter, subone. i got for $1150 delivered. powered by onkyo 575x, does the job for me. |
| re: A decent set of HT speakers/sub for around 1000/1200 ??? | ed_jacobson Feb 21, 2002 3:38 PM | | As others have mentioned, you can put together a pretty good system from Paradigm, Ascend, Axiom, PSB and others at that price point. Here's an example:
Fronts: Paradigm Atoms - $190
Center: Paradigm CC-170 - $180
Rears: Paradigm Atoms - $190
Sub: HSU VTF-2 (from nax.com) or Adire Audio Rava - $450.
Total - $1010
Replace the Atoms with Mini-Monitors as fronts and the center with the CC-370 and you push just past $1200.
Instead of the Paradigms but at about the same price point, the Polk RT25i got a good review in Stereophile http://www.stereophile.com/showarchives.cgi?417 and was named a product of the Year in the budget components section http://www.stereophile.com/showarchives.cgi?464:7
Here's a review of the Ascend Acoustics teamed with the HSU sub

Good luck. |

| re: A decent set of HT speakers/sub for around 1000/1200 ??? | macinyourface Feb 22, 2002 10:23 AM | | Take a look at Atlantic Technology's T70 System. Complete system including Center, 2 Front, 2 Rear and 10" Sub for around $1000. Great system for home theater. Also check out the Outlaw 1050 receiver. I have both and it's a great combination. Ofcourse, also take into account the size of your listening area. |
