What's better, 6.1 DTS or Fake 7.1?KevMac

First question, is there a DTS 5.1 and a DTS ES 6.1? And since 7.1 isn't a true format, I would think DTS ES 6.1 is the superior choice? I am thinking about upgrading to either 6.1 or 7.1, but just wanted to know the facts.

Thanks!

Kev,
Yes there is a Dts 5.1 and 6.1 discrete. And yes, I would consider 6.1 discrete a superior format to 5.1. Since you know that there is no "true" 7.1 format, then there is no need to upgrade to it. Just have 2 rear wall speakers in your Dts 6.1 discrete setup.

TT,

thanks for the quick reply.. But don't you mean 3 rear wall speakers? I thought the additional speaker in a 6.1 discrete setup was the rear center?
Lets break down some things......Terrible Terrence

Kev,
What you call 7.1 is really 6.1 with two rear center speakers. You have one left surround speaker, a right surround speaker, and two rear wall speakers. When you combine that with three front speakers and a sub, that is what people mistakenly call 7.1. This setup is used with DD EX, Dts ES matrix and discrete.
