Pioneer PDP-505HD Plasma DisplayAbs
Feb 22, 2002 11:29 AM
I am considering purchasing this television and I have some critical questions/concerns for which I have not been able to find answers to. My questions/concerns are as follows:
I would be buying this plasma to replace my current Sony Tube TV. I would watch a lot of non-HDTV broadcasting in 4:3 aspect ratio (as I don't like the other video modes such as Zoom, Wide, etc...). On this plasma TV, 60%
of my watching would be in 4:3 aspect ratio and the other 40% would be in watching DVD's (I do not plan to buy an HDTV tuner in the near future). Therefore, I am very much concerned about "screen burn-in" (or "4:3 burn-in
issue", as it has been labeled on various sites on the internet). Has this been a problem with this plasma tv? Does this TV have any built in technology so you would not get screen burn-in when you watch a lot of 4:3 mode? I know that this tv has grey bars on the side when watching regular broadcast in 4:3 mode, so, do these grey bars provide protection to "4:3 screen burn-in?"

I have called Pioneer about this and they told me that all Plasma (new models and old) are prone to "4:3 Burn-in" issue. I have seen some newer Models (like Fujitsu) that claim that they have protection against 4:3 burn-in. Would anyone have any insight into this?

Thanks.
