Progressive scan DVD player or not?Jazzy

My only source of Progreesive scan veiwing for now is my DVDrom drive on a 19" monitor. The picture is great, however, I'm not one to spend hours sitting at a computer desk looking at movies. Would I be getting this same quality of picture in a HD RPTV? My current DVD player for hometheater use is hooked up to my (non HD) 60" 4:3 RPTV via S-video connection.

You would be getting better with a HD RPTV. And even moreso if you couple it with a progressive-scan dvd player.

Don't you think size of display will have more profound effect on in his viewing comparison (comparing 19 inch display to 60 inch non-HD RPTV), than a TV being progressive scan capable or not??
IMO, having a HD RPTV will improve the picture slightly (as compare with his current set up), but it will never rival the picture quality on his 19 inch monitor-just base on size difference alone :)

from every report I have read on progressive scan DVD players, the one thing nearly every reviewer points out is the bigger the screen the bigger the difference one will notice. I just can't imagine someone benefiting from progressive scan on a 19 inch monitor.

HOWEVER, given how cheap progressive scan models are it may not be a bad idea to pick one up considering they can be the same cost as non-progressive models.

You made a good choice with the Panasonic RP56. This DVD player has received great reviews from a lot of HT magazines.

Most of the time you need to take what others say with a grain of salt and make your own decision. This player just received a best buy in its catagory, class 4 in the newest Perfect Vision Mar/Apr Mag. To quote the review:

"This DVD player is hard to beat in this price range. Panasonic's RP56 delivers remarkable, artifact free progressive scan pictures thanks to the inclusion of the Sage chip set using Faroudja technology. Although the remote control is not backlit, the user interface is straight forward and ergonomics are excellent--if not quite up to Sony's level. As teriffic as the picture is the digital sound quality suffers from the optical only output, which make for a somewhat glass, if dynamic presentation. That said, this is an outstanding value.

As for the JVC XV-SA75GD PV has this to say:

"JVC's SV-SA75 offers a compelling balance of features, fine ergonomics, and excellent audio performance, but the video quality if only respectable."

Ii think that you have made a fine decision so stick with it and you will be happy.
