Receiver Questions (Marantz SR5200)mtzoanos

Hi,

I have just gotten a system that consists of the following components:

Marantz SR5200
B&W 601 S3 (front & rear)
B&W LCR60 S3 (center)
No subwoofer (for the time being)

I have the following questions:

1. In view of the fact that I won't have a subwooofer for a while, should I set the speakers to large or small and why?

If I set the front speakers to large, should I also set the center channel to large?

Since the speakers are the bookshelf type, is there a chance of damaging them by setting them to large?

2. The receiver's volume control starts at -75 (I am not sure where it ends). I get decent movie-watching sound levels between -25 and -15. At that point, the volume bar displayed on the TV from the receiver is 3/4 or 4/5 full which seems awfully high to me. My WEGA TV produces movie-watching sound from 2 speakers with a half-full bar.

Am I doing something wrong here? Is there a way of finding out what volume I should not exceed before I damage the speakers?

3. The receiver has a setup screen that allows some sort of volume setting for the speakers. Since the manual has almost no explanation for it, what exactly is that screen? Do I set the maximum volume for the speakers there?

4. What's the preferred sound setting for the DVD player?

a. PCM
b. Bitstream
c. 2Ch Analog Stereo
d. 6Ch Analog Stereo

Do I need to change that setting every time that I play a DVD movie and an Audio CD?

Thank you,

Michael Tzoanos
