Receiver Recommendationisaaktnt
May 6, 2002 1:03 PM
Hello
I need a very inexpensive receiver with both 5.1 line-level in as well as 5.1 preouts. I looking to keep the price below $300 or at most $400. I will not even be using the amp portion of it just the decoder.

Thanks much
Isaak

Wow Soundman,
I bow to your experience. I have been searching for months and everyone in every stores laughs at the price I want it for. I have a Denon AVR3300 that has it but that was $900. Anyways thanks again.

Glad to help. I know when you tell them you want a 5.1 receiver to use as preamp with Dolby and DTS, they laugh you to scorn. Sometimes the budget Pioneer receivers take heat for their amp specs, but since you are using it for a processor, it does not matter.

I second Soundman's advice. I've been using the 810 (same reciver except less power and no LCD remote) for several months and it has decoded everything I've thrown at it flawlessly. Great performer.

I second Soundman's advice on the Pioneer. I've been using the 810 (same receiver except less power and no LCD remote) for several months and it has decoded everything I've thrown at it flawlessly. If you are just using it for decoding you might consider the 810. It's a bit cheaper (you can probably get it for around $300 w/shipping online), and since you're not using the amp the extra 10wpc won't make a difference.

Hey guys,
Have you looked at the 811s its the same price but seems to have more DD 5.1 ES DTS ES and DPLII, is there a difference in quality?

That is a new model from Pioneer. It would work for you as well. It even has the latest Dolby Pro Logic II processing. Here are some online dealers.
