Regarding video calibration, anyone know the difference between Video Essentials and Avia??? Is one better than the other??? no difference??? or better for certain systems???

Also, has the latest version of Video Essentials been released, and if so, where can a copy be obtained???

Thanx...

Both VE and Avia are supposed to come out with new versions sometime this year that will sell for less than their predecessors, but neither of them are out yet. I believe that VE has been out of print since last August, but I have seen copies of Avia still floating around. If you're just getting started, you might want to try out the Sound & Vision home theatre setup disc. Street price is about $15 and it has the basic tests that you can do without going into the service menu or fiddling around with parts festooned with shock hazard warnings. Ovation Software, which also produces Avia, created that disc and it made a huge difference with the video quality on my system.
