DTS/Toshiba 5700+Yamaha HTR-5560jbcool

Help!!! I have a Toshiba 5700 DVD player and a Yamaha HTR-5560 6 channel receiver. When I try to play some DTS movies the DVD player picks up the DTS option but will not let me select it. I can see the choice in the menu but no dice. I know both support DTS but I am wondering if the DVD player ois having an issue with passing on the DTS to the Yahmaha. What can I do. Thanks a lot...

Go into the main menu on your DVD player and select the audio option. Make sure that DTS is set on "bitstream". For some reason, a DVD players factory default is Dolby Digital on and DTS set to "off".

Once this is done, go into the DVD's audio set-up and select DTS and you're off to the races!

Thanks for your input but I have tried all of that with no resolve. For some reason I think the DVD player does not pick up the fact that my receiver has DTS decoding? Now what...??

Well, this one's less obvious but did you make sure that your receiver is set to auto-detect? Virtually all receivers come with this feature on so it would suprise me greately if yours wasn't a factory default.

If that doesn't work, start from the top and work your way through the chain. The first major question is how do you have the DVD player hooked-up to the receiver (e.g. coax, optical or are you using standard RCA jacks)? I know this unit has DVD-audio which requires you to run the 6 RCA cables to the receiver but you must also have an optical or coax cable to pass DD and DTS in 5.1.

Give us the low-down on your current set-up and we might be able to help further.

Ok..here goes.. I have a Toshiba 5700 DVD player that does have the 6 rca cables going to the Yamaha HTR-5560 receiver as well as a digital optical cable. The funny thing is that I may have forgot to mention is that there are movies that will play in DTS like the DieHard trilogy and Desperdo in Superbit format. Also the DVD player will show 6.1 channel mode select for DTS but it will not let me select it. But the format should be 5.1 DTS which the movie states. Very strange. I also have the 2 channel hooked up as well. Along with the component video cable. My receiver will pick up a DTS mode right away on some movies but other like behind enemy lines will not play even if I force DTS and bitstream on the DVD player. So I know DTS will work on some movies but not all. I think it might be the DVD player itself as the 6 channel DTS mode should not be a choice in the audio mode the player offers when the movie starts. Thanks for all your help.
