$1000-$1500 projectJudaBenHur

I'm looking for a reciever, 2 mains (bookshelf or tower, preferably tower) and a center.

I had been looking at the denon 2802 and JBL s38s with an S series center but I wanted to know what you guys thought.

I am willing to buy off of the net and I would like speakers that will reporduce equaly well in both music and movies.... maybe 60/40 movies. In the reciever I want to be able to decode most formats but I dont need 6.1 as I only have 5 speakers right now (may upgrade in the future so its not a bad thing to have 6.1)

So what do you think?

I think what you picked now is a very good start. The 2802 is a good receiver and the speakers are good also. I think you will be pleased with this choice. bob d

You might want to check out the wharfedale diamond 8.3 Floorstanders. They go for $350 a pair. What Hi*Fi? (a british magazine) gave it outstanding reviews (5 gold stars - best in class).

At the price you might even be able to buy 2 pairs of those. I would also think about a cheaper receiver such as the Marantz SR52000, Yamaha RX-V630, Onkyo SR600 and the Denon 1802 which should be equally good as the 2802 for your needs.

Center-wise, Wharfedale has a matching diamond speaker.

If you want to stick with 2 tower speakers and a center, check out the Acoustic Energy Aegis EVO speakers. This series is garnering awards in speaker shoot-outs faster than the Titanic.

Good luck,

if you dont have one, the jbl pb10 is a good sub for the money. bob d

Figure:

Denon AVR-2802 - $550 (not sure where - may want to ask on HTF)
HSU VTF-2 - $450
Paradigm Titans - $220
Paradigm CC-370 center - $275

That gets you new mains, center, receiver, and sub. What speakers do you currently have?

just wait a couple of days, nick3344 (a regular on this forum) is comparing the onkyo SR600 and denon 2802 head to head. that might give u a better idea of the receivers relative strenghts and weaknesses. just keep in mind that the sr600 will be about $200 cheaper than the 2802.
