| DIRE STRAITS CD Sultans of swing | pinetop Jul 27, 2002 2:55 AM | | is there something special about this cd? I bought this cd at Walmart the other day in the reduced price bin.The question is i have an Outlaw receiver with a #750 outboard 165w x 5 amp,the volume goes up to 80. I have the volume set to 42 when i listen to my old cds wich is quite loud, and when i put the new cd in and played it at my regular 42 setting i damn near got blown out of my chair. What gives with this cd is it the work of the devil or what? bob d |

Since HDCD's are compatible with players that don't include HDCD decoders, they're always mixed in with other CD's. I always glance at the back of the jewel case when I'm buying a CD in a brick-and-mortar store.
I actually prefer the HDCD's, by far. If your CD or DVD player includes an HDCD decoder, you can hear a more detailed, higher resolution sound, IMO. The volume level on the Dire Straits CD your heard was not a function of the HDCD encoding, but simply the way the recording engineers chose to master this particular title.

| That album is alright. | KiD SmokE Jul 27, 2002 2:51 PM | | IMO, the best Dire Straits album would be making Movies which include the song "Skateaway".
