| Denon AVR-1602 vs Yamaha HTR-5550 - Polk Rm6000 | harshanm Jul 27, 2002 6:01 PM | | hi all,
I have narrowed down my choices for an AV receiver to the these two well thought of units.
please help me which one to go for. I am looking for great sound, in the first place. and I love music. i live in an Apt complex. so not very big house. Please help me with ur insights.
The budget wise i think this a stretch.
frys electronics has yamaha for $350
goodguys has denon for $350-if i buy today on line. no tax.
its aboyt 28 bucks less. Frys has a deal for Polk RM6000 for $250
please let me know, how is Polk audio RM6000.
and what is my alternatives? i don't want very big(size wise) sub-woofers. some thing of size yamaha subwoofer/bose subwoofer.(thats all the space i have)
I want to spend not more than MAX of $700.
I still need to buy a DVD player after this.
Thanks in advance.

That AVR-1602's about to get discontinued and I'm pretty sure you can talk the price down even further if you go to any Denon retailer. One thing to keep in mind about the HTR-5550 is that it has an identical amplifier to the lower priced HTR-5540. The 5540 does not have S-video or component video switching and lacks coax digital inputs and I believe some DSP modes. Otherwise, it's functionally identical to the 5550. Between the Yammies and the Denons, they're both nice units. The 5550 has a slightly longer feature list, but you should be able to swing a better deal for the Denon given that its successor has already been announced. So, take your time and do some auditioning. HT is something that takes time to build, so have a little patience and have fun with it. |

However, for less money, you can't go wrong with B&W 300 series all around. Klipsch are very, very efficient and work well with a budget receiver. They also are, in my opinion, the very best deal out there on subwoofers. I hate Polk speakers. They don't sound good and they fatigue the ears. They're also overpriced. They made a good name for themselves at one point in time, but now they don't make anything worth carrying home. |
