| Denon 1802 vs. new 1603 | Killroy Jul 28, 2002 7:30 AM | | After looking at the specs between these two, I noticed that the wattage is the same per channel. There are some things the 1802 has, but overall, I don't know why I wouldn't go with the new 1603? I'm looking for Digital and DTS which both have. I'm not very interested in the bells and whistles. Is there anything under the hood that I need to know about regarding the 1603?

If you intend to keep your receiver, you want to go for the higher quality amp.
The only area where the 1603 potentially outperforms the 1802 is the processor. The 1603 has a 32-bit Analog Devices processor, while the 1802 uses a 24-bit Crystal processor. I've read accounts of that particular processor (which is also used in some receivers from Kenwood, Onkyo, and others) having trouble with certain discs like Jurassic Park 3 and Pearl Harbor, but for all I know that issue might have gotten resolved a long time ago. |
