| How important is a DVD player? HELP!! | bobbyg123 Jul 28, 2002 9:15 PM | | First of all let me say thank you to everyone who has replied to my numerous questions on my first home theater assembly. I've just about decided on everything with the exception of a progressive scan DVD player. How many features do I REALLY NEED? I will have an HDTV within a year, so I want to make sure that I get a DVD player with a great progressive scan picture. Beyond that, I'm lost. For example, the good guys has a Sony 5-disc Pro-Scan player (DVPNC655P) for $249 and it plays CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW and MP3 formats. Then again, the good guys also have a Dennon pro-scan (DVD1600) for $499 and a Kenwood 5-disc (DV5700) for $799. I cannot notice ANY DIFFERENCES in sound or picture while demo'ing these brands, but I'm wondering if I'm missing the boat in terms of features. Here's the system I'm most likely going to purchase. What would be a good DVD mate? Thanks in advance.
Dennon AVR-2802 (possibly the 3802)
Klipsch SB-1 (maybe SB-2) fronts
Klipsch SC.5 (maybe SC-1) center
Klipsch SS.5 (maybe SS-1) surrounds
Klipsch KSW10(maybe KSW-12) woofer |

personally I would pick it over the other models for its' video performance driven by a faroudja chip, dvd-audio with base management, ability to handle layer change, and to simplify my system by eliminating remotes(i have a denon avr3802). |
