High and Low level inputs/outputs...RUSSIA
Jul 29, 2002 12:10 PM
How is it possible to convert a high-level output into a low-level one? For example, is it possible to convert my power output on my Kenwood receiver to somehow be converted externally to a low-level output so that I can re-route the signal to another receiver? Thanks for any posts in reply in advance.

How about the TAPE OUT/TAPE MONITOR jacks? They are already low level.

That is not what I was talking about. Say if i wanted to turn my centre channel high-level out into a low-level, how would I be able to do that externally? Thanks though!

In car audio, a lot of factory am/fm/cassette or am/fm/cd units don't have low-level outputs. If you want to add a power amplifier to a car audio system without a low-level output, you can use a device called a "line out converter", which converts the high level speaker output signal of the factory head unit to a low-level signal that can drive a power amplifier. I think the line out converter degrades the sound slightly though.
