Building new media room: speaker placementjeffy
Jul 29, 2002 9:14 PM
I am building a 28 by 18 family room with about 1/2 of it being set up for a home theater. In discussions with the wiring contractor, he has suggested that the side surrounds could be in the ceiling, as could be the rear channel speakers. Can side surround speakers be in the ceilings? I could place in-walls on either side of the room, however they would have to be about 4' from the screen, due to the placement of windows, etc. Finally, I am not real convinced of the in-wall speaker as a design. I could pay a lot of $$ for a speaker without an engineered box, to maximize their sound. As I have a space about 11" wide between the ceiling joists, and this space is about 11" deep, I could place a nice bookshelf or center channel speaker (with a cabinet), facing down of course, in this space. Any comments or feedback is appreciated.
