Room Size - Set up help urgently needed.seankiely

Well we finally did it and got a place with a HT room in the basement - well the wife calls it the kids toy room, but I'm allowed to have my system down there to..lol.

Here are the demensions of that room - 10 wide - 18 long. Now hears the dilemma - I could put the "theatre" in a square using the front as the 10 foot section and using the space up to about 12 feet - BUT - is it fesiable to put it in a area 10 foot by 10 foot?? - will I be sitting to close to the TV? Its only a 32" - also will my soundstage sound ok? I am 99% DVD's - barely any music.

Ok reason for my question is this - my rear speaker stands are solid steel and wobly - so I could hide them behind the couch, but i risk a topple onto the kids (not good) - but if I cram the system into the other way (10 X 10) I can hide the stands behind the couch with reasonable security).

Anyone help?? Woochier/Keith ??

Summary - is it better to have a section for my sys of 10 X 12 or will i notice a difference in 10 X 10??

Thanks guys...appreciate it as always!!

Sounds like you have a number of issues to deal with.

First and foremost, I would recommend getting sturdier speaker stands. I have a cat that likes to jump on my speakers to get at some plants and, after one knock down, I too had to go out and get some stands with a sturdier base. Would it be possible to wall mount?

Second, a 10 x 10 room is relatively small but, if you're viewing a 32" set, it should be decent. What kind of system are you running (what are your audio components)? I'd recommend squeezing in as much space as you can. If you can justify taking two extra feet from the kids, go for it! If not, work with what you have...10 x 10 isn't too bad for an HT only room.
