| Tweeter.... | Denon_man Aug 1, 2002 5:30 AM | | Let me tell you of my experience with Tweeter the other day.
I walked in and saw a Klipsch KSW-10 on clearance for $275. I said to myself "Wow, good deal." I asked the dealer to let me audition the speaker, he was hesitant to let me hear that one, but he let me. I heard the pod-racing scene with it and I was wondering why it sounded so bad compared to the KSW12 they had on the floor. I said, "Why does it sound so bad." He said it is all soubjective to your listening room. OK, then I asked him if he had the choice, would he buy it, his answer? "I would buy a Rel." OK, I said to myself, "let's take it and see if it sounds better." Before I bought it I asked if I could see the driver. I picked off a piece of lint and he said, "A little lint, no big deal." He goes to flip it again, I tell him to wait, and then I see it. A large "dimple" as he calls it. I showed it to him and he said, "so you gonna hold off then." I was about to say, "No, I'm gonna buy this POS." Then I realized that it's OK and just left in disgust. He knew something was wrong all along, and he still wanted to sell it to me. I feel bad for the person who will eventually buy it. I've decided that I will never buy anything from Tweeter unless I absolutely have to, never.
Thanks for letting me rant, thought I'd share my experience.

Not enough staff, all the guys I knew there who knew what they were talking about are gone. Old product, overpriced product and new staff that can't even get the demo's to work properly. I watched as this recent Russion emigre tried unsuccessfully to get a particular speaker receiver combo to work for demo. I could've helped but instead walked out. No one asked to help me after 30 minutes in the store. They're dieing and can't die fast enough for me.

Now Tweeter is focused strongly on Home Theater in general, and TV's in particular rather than audio. Tweeter carries the brands I've purchased recently - B&K, Denon, Klipsch - but they won't discount at all: everything sells at MSRP. I tried to work with the Tweeter stores in Houston, but I gave up and ordered the components through internet retailers.

| re: Tweeter.... | hirsch22 Aug 5, 2002 1:06 PM | | I went to my local Tweeter several weeks ago to audition speakers. I began by walking from one room to another without assistance for several minutes while the sales guys were all in the middle of the room talking. The I figured, screw it, and I walked to the back of the room and began punching in the speaker combinations I wanted to hear. I'd never done it before, nut it isn't rocket science and I got the hang within a minute. I was enjoying going back & forthbetween several tower speakers that I was interested in. 30 seconds on A, then 30 on B, then 30 on A, 30 on C, etc. It was actually a very helpful exercise for me in making my choice & I had made up my mind on what to get after 15 minutes or so. Just as I was about to leave, one of the sales guys finally noticed me and came over to inform me that I wasn't allowed to touch the control panel, only he was. I asked if he was serious and he assured me that he was, then began to walk away. I then proceeded to have the twat demo speakers for me for another half-hour. He couldn't be bothered to help me when I needed it, so I figured he might as well spend some quality time with me now. Ahh, the things that make me feel good. |
