| My Onkyo's dead or undergoing major surgery. Any suggestions | Worf101 Aug 1, 2002 7:01 AM | | My Onkyo 787, way out of warranty, died last month. Thank God I had a Sony POS AV that I got at an open box at Tweeter's to fill in for the meantime. Anyway, local repair guy says it's "beyond his abilities to revive" so he sent my baby to the regional repair center. I fear the worst. If she need's replacing which of the three would you choose and why?
Yamaha RX-V1
Onkyo 898
Denon 4802
Of course Onkyo's gone down bit in my eyes. If my 787's repairable she's either on ebay or upstairs in the bed room. Any help would be appreciated.

| None of the three you mentioned...... | nick4433 Aug 1, 2002 7:15 AM | | I would get the Denon 3802 if you were happy with the 787. The 3802 IMHO is a better performer than the 787 with respect to power, processing, etc. You will also add DTS-ES Discrete with the 3802. Besides you can start of with the 3802 and later on add a external amp for more power and use the 3802 as a pre/pro.
So hrry up Worfster and call 6th ave. electronics because they are an "Authorized" dealer and are selling the 3802 for only $699.

| correction | AVMASTER Aug 1, 2002 12:13 PM | | Denon avr3801 for $695, but for an even grand I'd still go with the 3802 over the other two |
| Correction to correction, 3802 for $699 at 6thAve. (nt) | nick4433 Aug 1, 2002 2:17 PM | | |
| hmmm!!! 6 ave ... good thing im in Jersey | Chris009 Aug 2, 2002 8:17 PM | | 6ave not only sells Denon at a low price but also Pioneer and NHT( they have so far the lowest priced NHT dealer i know )...they will even offer 20% discounts on speakers sometimes (in store only). What's great is that they are an authorized dealer. By the way, they also have great showrooms. I just wish they sold other cables than Monster. Well they sell B&K, Rotel and Anthem systems, i don't get why they can't sell higher-end cables other than Monster. |
| Correction to correction, 3802 for $699 at 6thAve. (nt) | AVMASTER Aug 3, 2002 10:18 AM | | correct your correction to my correction
denon avr3802 $999.95 at 6th ave and any other authorized dealer |
| AVMASTER, you have to call to get that deal.... | nick4433 Aug 4, 2002 4:07 PM | | They are selling them that low to make room for the 3803s. |
| AVMASTER, you have to call to get that deal.... | AVMASTER Aug 5, 2002 10:07 AM | | just got of the phone with my denon rep., lets see how long 6th ave. will be an authorized dealer |
| My sincere condolences... | Keith from Canada Aug 1, 2002 7:26 AM | | It's always a sad day when one of our HT brothers looses the heart of his system. On the bright side however, it does give you a chance to upgrade!
If Nick is right about the good price on the 3802, I'd definitely check that one out! If I were to choose from the list above, I would likely keep it to either the Yammie or the Denon given your recent experience with Onkyo. Of those two, I don't think it really matter which you choose. I've heard them both and they are both phenomenal performers! Go in and have a listen to both and let us know which you prefer. |
| Thanks for the love fellah.... | Worf101 Aug 5, 2002 6:27 AM | | It definately sucks when the main piece to your home theatre and music listening goes down. Figures they're coming out with new models AGAIN. This is worse than buying an automobile.
Later....
