| How you keep sound quality consistent w/different sources? | KiD SmokE Aug 1, 2002 12:26 PM | | I am sure you all have run into this problem:Sound quality that sound good on one source will not hold up true for another source. For example, I used receivers's Tone control and EQ to optimize sound for satellite music feed and it does sound good.
But when I play CDs, the slight boost I have in bass and treble frequency [for satellite feed] seems too much. Also the same thing can be said about when playing movies, listening to FM or spinning LPs.
The best I could do is to adjust Receiver's Tone' control (by passing EQ...Tape Monitor) to tailor get the best sound from FM source (most FM station seem to boost their bass frequency too much), and when listening to satellite (kick in EQ) I have adjusted EQ not only to improve sound quality, but also to compensate for Tone's control "off settings".
For LPs and DVDs/TV sources it is a toss up between these two audio settings. If I adjust Tone control or EQ for best sound from LP or TV, then the opposite will happen and these audio settings will not hold true for FM or Satellite.
I wonder if you all have run to such a problem and how did you approached it?? My ideal Amp would have EQ settings for each input independent of each other and can be save for each input :) |

These can be saved as Presets, of which 40 are available, and recalled at any time.

| Are you planning to sell your Pre-amp anytime soon? | KiD SmokE Aug 1, 2002 2:34 PM | | You may have a customer...LOL
Isn't nice to have so much control over your system :) |

You might want to audition B&K at your local audio shop. You might be able to use the Reference 30, hook it up to your receiver through 5.1 analog inputs, and keep your receiver for amplification, at least for now.
Reference 30 preamp: $2,300
Reference 2220 amp (220 X 2): 1,100
Reference 3220 amp (220 X 3): 1,600
