| Surge protecter search | lennymas Aug 1, 2002 10:58 PM | | I need a quality surge protector. My denon AVR-4802 is in the shop due to a nice thunderstorm. Thank god it's still under warranty. Any manufacturer suggestions? |
| protect your whole house... | GM Aug 2, 2002 6:44 AM | | I spoke to two electricians aobut protecting my home theater. Both of them recommended an "electrical and lightening house protector". There are two types..each about $100 - $175 bucks...to have it installed varies, but shouldn't be much. Total for me was about $140. It sits above your fuse panel and protects your house by intercepting the surge BEFORE it enters your fuse panel. It's cheaper than the larger room surge protectors and protects everything in your house. Contact a local electrican to inquire. |

| re: Surge protecter search | TJW Aug 2, 2002 8:16 PM | | Whole house surge protectore are good but will not help if the surge rides in on a cable(or satellite) connection. I have Panamax (about $50) on all my setups. Knock on wood, they all seem to be doing their jobs. Which ever brand you decide upon, make certain that every incoming cable you have on your system (power cords, co-axial antennas, telephone lines, etc) has a port on your surge protector. |

Their top rated one was Tripp Lite Isotel 6 ultra, $70. |
| I'm glad you didn't say anything about library. | KiD SmokE Aug 3, 2002 12:42 PM | | But on a hot scorching summer afternoons, browsing a "cool" library might be just what the doctor ordered....
