What type of Decoder needed if DVD-Audio goes digital??KiD SmokE

I guess this is the continuation of post below.

Two main question I have if MLP compression is used to transfer data, then in what format DVD-audio is recorded on disc:MLP or PCM?

And also if DVD-audio goes digital, what type of decoder one would need. MLP, PCM or combination of both Decoder since transferred signal in MLP format??

BTW: welcome back Sire Terrence :)

Good question, and I hope someone may answer this. For example, Denon and Pioneer both have top-of-the-line DVD-A player that outputs DVD-A track digitally to their respective top-of-the-line receivers. Is this signal still "packaged"? Or has it been "unpacked" by the DVD-A player to simple PCM?

I'm also wondering, since my Yamaha RX-V1300 has 24/192 DAC for all channels, and the manual says the co-axial digital input that handle "higher than 96kHz digital signal", if a DVD-A player will simply "unpack" the DVD-A high-rez track, perhaps even my lowly Yamaha can handle the D/A conversion?

From what I gather from you, TT and others is that since MLP is used for storage and transmission of DVD-audio medium, then if it ever goes digital, then one might need a MLP decoder and then a PCM decoder )on the receiver end) to get the music out-or combination of both decoders :)
