| Digital movie difference? | Widowmaker Oct 21, 2002 7:00 AM | | I understand that the first movie recorded totally in a digital format was Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Movie reviewers were treated to a digital showing and they wrote that there was a tremendous and noticeable difference in quality between digital vs. 35mm. Has anyone else out there seen Episode II in digital format at the movie theater? If so, was it really as good as the reviewers said it was?
Also, because Episode II was shot 100% digitally, the DVD transfer would take less time and have better picture quality as opposed to working from a 35mm original, especially if you have a progressive scan player. I'm going to buy Episode II regardless, but is this really true? Are we going to notice a big picture difference between this digitally transferred movie from its 35mm predecessors?
BTW, Episode II is now being transferred to the IMAX format for release in November and it will be showing near where I live at the National Air and Space Museum in DC (I'll be all over that). Are there any other takers out their stoked to see this movie on a 3-story IMAX screen? |
| From what I have read... | Keith from Canada Oct 21, 2002 7:34 AM | | All the reviews that I've read to-date have indicated that the true digital transfer wasn't as impressive as everyone expected in the movie theater. However, EVERY single review that I've read states that the DVD transfer is beyond reproach and the best transfer to DVD so far. I'm incredibly psyched about this release especially since I was one of those people who thought that this was a great movie in addition to having some great action and visuals. |

I can't remember the name of them, but several reviewers give some big thumbs down at a couple in LA, while one theater in NYC is pretty good. Seems like the theater operators have little clue how to make a digital picture looks good.
