| Need replacement DVD player | Brookieman10 Oct 22, 2002 4:55 AM | | I'm looking for a mid price DVD player under $350 cnd(~$200 us). I don't have HDTV and won't likely get one in the next 5 yrs so progressive scan is not that important to me
I am however interested in a rock solid machine that won't skip, freeze or pixelate like my Hitachi 315.
I have looked @ higher end JVC but picture quality is poorer than what I had. I've demo'd the Denon 9000 and the NAD 351 but its outside my budget. Great picture though
After searching dvd reviews here most of the players in my price range may/maynot freeze skip etc and I'm not interested in chancing a model that may/may not work and fighting with warrenty
My set up is a Denon 1802 with Paradigm Mini Monitors. The Dvd player would have to do double as a cd player. I watch about 3-4 movies a month.

I'd recommend the Sony DVP-NS500V, for under $180. It has decent CD playback, and also multi-channel SACD, so you can try out the new format. It doesn't have progressive scan, but interlace picture output is decent.
Just to remind you, if "rock solid" means heavy construction, you won't find it. Most <$200 players are about 6-7lbs (3kg), with mostly plastic casings.

| Agree, go with Sony DVD player :) | KiD SmokE Oct 22, 2002 10:28 AM | | Also check out Sony N315 which sell for $119 US. It got alot of good reviews concerning its picture quality. I am thinking of getting one my self for Christmas :) |
