| Denon 3802 -- effectively run a whole system or add power? | zojirsushi Oct 22, 2002 1:11 PM | | My little Luxman 50 x 2 power amp and ProLogic receiver (used as a pre amp) were hit with a lightning surge. I'm interested in replacing the fried with a Denon 3802, which is 100ish x 6, to run my entire system. I'm not a big fan of Sony or Kenwood receivers because they just sound loud when turned up (I say that as a point of reference). Is the Denon receiver strong enough to effectively run 6 channels or would you recommend getting a lessor model and spending a little more to get a separate power amp? Is a power amp, such as the Parasound 85 x 6, going to make that much difference over the Denon? I do like all of the features of the 3802, which some would be foregone on a lessor model. I also like the idea of simplification but not at the expense of quality. |

The only exception would be if you were to feed it speakers with very low sensitivity, like Magnepans or such, but I doubt that's the case. The 3802 is a VERY strong performer IMO. |

I have the Denon 3802 running 5 Definitive Technology BP2000's (tower speakers), a CLR3000 center, and a pair of BPVX's surrounds with no problem. I can play them loud and they sound incredible with this reciever.

It too is plugged into Definitive Technology speakers (2xBP8Bs, CLR2002, 2xBP1.2Xs and ProSub100) and does a great job. Plays movies clean and loud in the 14'x17' room.
