Can Mission M70s work with B&W Mains and Centre channels?Jeffrey N

I am putting my system together peicemeal.

So far I have a Yamaha RXV 2095 Receiver with B&W DM 602 Series II main speakers and a B&W LCR 6 Series II Center speaker. Have Bargain basement TEAC LSX 700's as my front effect speakers

Have a David D-Box 302 Subwoofer.

Am thinking of buying Mission M70s for my rears in view of reviews that I have read. Am thinking of buying them for a temporary solution.

Ultimately, I will buy B&W DM 604s for my mains, move the DM 602s to the back and make them my rear speakers, and make the M70s my front effects speakers.

So my question is, Will the Mission M70s integrate well as rears with my basically B&W DM 602 Series II system and my Yamaha RXV 2095 receiver? Or should I not mix the Mission M70s with my B&Ws since they do not go well together? Can the B&W Mission configuration work?

Thanks for your answer.

Hey Jeffrey.

My answer would be that as long as you've matched your mains and center, you can do what you are proposing with the rear speakers. If I were in your shoes, I would get a set of speakers that you like and that you would be happy with on a separate system. The Mission's that you refer to are very good for music and could make for a great set of speakers for a second system elsewhere in your house after you've scraped up the cash to get yourself a full B&W system. In the meantime, they should work quite well as your rear speakers.

Thanks for your answer. I'm thinking of heading over to Bay Bloor Radio this weekend and picking up the M70s. BBR is selling them for $200.00 plus tax. Is that a good price? As I have already stated, my plan is to eventually get the B&W DM 604 Series 3 (or if I could find them Series 2) as my main front speakers. Are the 604s good speakers and and can they work well with my Yamaha RXV 2095 Receiver?

Thanks,

Keith from Canada, on a somewhat unrelated issue, which Home Theatre receiver would you buy if money were no object: the new Yamaha RXV-Z1 or the Denon AVR 5803 and why? Have looked at them both and am salivating. Eventually hope to replace my RXV 2095 with one or the other, since I'm sick and tired of having paid good money for my RXV 2095 and not had the benefit of a 5.1 channel (i.e., non DSP) stereo option.

When you're looking that high up in the model line, I don't think you're going to hear a whole lot of difference between the two receivers. Fact of the matter is, both of those beasts are the 'creme-de-la-creme' of receivers and they are both phenomenal performers. If it were me, I'd likely sit back and give them both a serious listen and see I could spot any differences between the two sonically. If I couldn't, I'd base my decision on the 'feature factor' such as ergonomics (which one looks better), remote (which one is more intuitive), bells and whistles, etc.

Either way you go, you should be more than satisfied with your purchase.

Yes, virtually all of the B&W speakers are good (although somewhat overprice compared to the competition IMO).

Now stop fretting and build your system!!!

Fretting? Look, IMO for decent sounding music in my living room an, you can buy a Panasonic Mini-system (SCAK series) for around $500.00 and enjoy (it doesn't sound bad, believe me) get a little crazier and buy mid range Yamaha with 5 Paradigms and a subwoofer for maybe $3,000.00, go with something more serious (Yamaha/Denon and B&W or Klipsch) for between $5,000.00 and $10,000.00, or go really nuts for over $10,000.00...then ya gotta go to IKEA and get the shelving for it and pay another $1,000.00-$2,000.00 or more... Then you go for the TV which can cost anywhere from $1,000.00-$15,000.00 depending what you want....

My point is...in home theatre..the sky's the limit and the funny thing is, in the end the Panasonic mini-system doesn't sound that bad compared to the Nautilus hi end system....

I'M FRETTING BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO WASTE MONEY, BUT I DON'T WANT CRAP AND THEY ALL DO THE SAME THING BASICALLY, BRING MUSIC INTO YOUR HOME!!!!!!

So what do I do? Take a valium and put the money in mutual funds and forget the whole thing altogether or get a $10,000.00-$20,000.00 system that will probably not sound 20-40 times as good as the minisystem?

What do you suggest?

Well Jeff, I would start by saying that I hope you're not being serious with your statement "in the end the Panasonic mini-system doesn't sound that bad compared to the Nautilus hi end system..." -- If that's the case, go out and pick-up a mini-system and enjoy!

You sound to me like you know what you want but are having some trouble justifying it to yourself. Try to remember the cardinal rule that all too often forgotten in the HT world...if it's not fun, it's not worth it!

man, there is no way a panasonic mini-system sounds as good as a nautilus, but if you think it does, go out and buy a RCA HTIB from radio sack and knock yourself out,
