Yamaha Receivers with PSB Speakers3db

Please bare with me but I have a few questions packed into this post;

1.) Whats the difference in quality between the Yamaha HTR series receiver and RXV series; specifically HTR5590 and the RXV2300?

2.) PSB speakers are known to be very revealing. Yamaha receivers are known to be on the bright side. Is PSB and Yamaha a good match?

3.) NAD has a new receiver out there. How would you equate the power reserves of NAD vs Yamaha.

4.) I can forget about Denon because its way over priced in Canada. Onkyo doesn't seem to be too expensive up here.

Comments are appreciated.

I can only answer #1.

The HTR receivers are the same as the low- to mid-end RX-Vs. Just different badging and sold via different channels. The 5590 is the same as RX-V1300. The 2300 has slightly higher power, and minor feature improvements like better 2nd room control.

#1 -- Already answered.

#2 -- I've helped 5 of my friends put together systems and 4 of them have gone with a Yamaha/PSB combo. The sound is fantastic, especially for home theater. (the other system is a Yammie/Mission book-shelf set-up...the smaller PSB's don't do as well as their tower equivilents with classical music...in fact, I would likely not recommend a bookshelf PSB system...Paradigm and Mission do a better job with their smaller speakers IMO).

#3 -- I highly doubt that a NAD would have a larger (or smaller for that matter) power supply than Yamaha IF you are looking in the same price range. NAD has traditionally had it's strengths (VERY good for music) and it's weaknesses (weak with HT compared to others). I'm not familiar with their newest line but I would doubt that they would change from previous years.

#4 -- Yes, Denon is a little over-priced in Canada although I personally have found Onkyo to be more-so over the past year or so. Their Integra line is ridiculously priced where I live (Ottawa). In terms of $ for $ value, Yamaha is the best bet for the majority of Canadians since their mark-up is significantly less than the others.

Enjoy!!!
You wouldn't be working for the Audio Centre, would you? :)3db

I went to Audiotronics on Sunday and they listed there top of the line Onkyo around 1300-1500 Cdn which isn't bad either.
Nope...but I should be getting commissions from them!Keith from Canada

Actually, I used to work at Bleekers many moons ago. In fact, I put myself through University selling A/V equipment their and spending my speaker $'s over at the Audio Centre. Most of the subsequent purchases that I have made for both me and my friend's have come from the Audio Centre. I am no longer in the A/V industry and haven't been for several years so my allegence to Audio Centre is based on past experience with their staff and products.

Which Onkyo unit were you looking at? My last kick at the Onkyo cat was with their Integra line which a buddy of mine was interested in...until he learned that the equivilent Yamaha was several hundred cheaper in Canada despite the fact that they retail the same in the US.
Can't remember the modle number.3db

II can't remeber if it was a 5 or channel modle. I know it was pushing a 100watts for all channels. Next time I go in, I'll note that.

Speakin of Bleekers, the Yamaha 1300 was on sale for 1099; 1299 at the Audio Center but I think the sales person I deal with would have let me have it for 1099.
Bought a Denon 1802 for $525 CND at A&BVW Golfer
