I would like some help on deciding which TV to buy...Id like a 34/36' TV HDTV ready ect. I have about $2000 to spend, also I'd like to pick up a progressive DVD player. Is the Sony KV-36HS500 a good buy or is there something better for the money?. Hopefully I can get some good info before spending the hard earned $$$ -). I guess if you had bout $2000 to spend on a home system, speakers and all, what would you get?.

I've decided that I want to go with a RPTV, now I guess the question is whats are good model for around $2500?..or are they all the same pretty much?.

I like Pioneer's 53" which you should be able to find for less than $2500 (non-Elite).

They are not all the same. My friend has a 48" Mitsubishi and while it looks great with anamorphic DVD and HD broadcasts, its 4:3 stretch mode is terrible. Pioneer's stretch mode is much, much better.

Toshiba's stretch modes are pretty good too, but I find their picture to be a bit soft with HD directly compared to Pioneer. That being said, the Toshiba's are a little more common and a few hundred dollars cheaper and without a direct side by side comparison are far more impressive.

BTW, I can make these claims (which are my opinion only) because a nearby store that does ISF calibration to all of their display models puts them all side by side and feeds them a HD Dish Network signal.

Im thinking bout going with the Toshiba 42H82, since this TV is for an apartment so its not a really big room, and the Toshiba seems pretty nice.

There's a new Sony RPTV 46" that is one to look at, has all the nice features of the much larger ones, its still small enough being a 'set-top' and with a good input the image is very very clear
