Which Denon receiver for 7.1 - AVR 1803 or AVR-1082 ?Breezer88888

Okay,
I'm glad to read all the Denon posts out there b/c I could use some help deciding on a receiver for my 7.1 speaker HT set-up. I'm looking to get the best use of the rear center surrounds and don't want to miss out on the recent DVDs with Dolby Digital EX formats. The AVR-1082 doesn't have DD-EX, but it is set up for 7.1 with DTS-ES and Neo 6, 110W, and Sharc 32bit processing. Will not having DD-EX be a big deal? And yes, I'm interested b/c 6th Ave is selling it for under $600.

I was also considering the newer AVR-1803 ($350) that has DD-EX & DTS-ES, Neo 6, 80W, and 32bit processing. My question on this receiver is whether it can run the rear pair of center surrounds w/o bi-amping? All speakers have efficient SPL ratings and the rear centers are small in-walls. Will the AVR-1803 adequately drive the 7 speakers?

Thanks a lot,
Breezer

It was my understanding that if you want to use the amps in the 1803 you would only be able to do 6.1. You can use if for 7.1 but need to use an external amp. Is that what you mean by "bi-amping"?

ALSO - I am considering the 1803 but I am still in the research mode. QUESTION: 1) Denon's web site (and customer service line person) said that if I were to buy a Denon product from someone that was not an authorized dearler (most on-line places with good prices) that the warranty would be void even if the product was brand new in the box and had the original serial number on it. Any thoughts or comments on this?

When I said bi-amping, I meant sharing a pair of rear surround centers with the one terminal for the 6th rear surround speaker, making it a 7.1. I don't really know how the 1803 works with that "extra" terminal that can be assigned for a sep room, or to be used for 7.1 (maybe).

Regarding Denon's warranty warning, I'd listen to it just in case. But I don't know anything for sure on this.

There are 6 amps in the 1803. There are 7 speaker terminals. Two of these are for Zone 2/Rear Surround. These two are powered by the SAME amp, so that you can do EITHER:
1. Connect two speakers in another room for Zone 2. The sound output to Zone 2 is mono.
2. Connect two speakers as rear surround. Both speakers will output the same sounds, but according to Denon this is supposed to be better than just one rear speaker doing it. Thus you can only get true 6.1, but one of the surround points will have two speakers.

I have the denon 1803 nice reciever, only problem is the temptation to buy from on unauthorized dealer, if you do, denon WILL NOT honor warrenty, even if brand new. I was lucky i had a connection to someone who got me a really good price from an autorized dealer, but i have heard nightmares about people who order online from unauthorized dealers, something freaky happens and they are out 400 bucks...bite the bullet, get it from a dealer.

I have a AVR-1082 and I think it's great. I am having one problem though. I use the Mutli-Zone for patio speakers and I am not able to get audio from my DVD player. I'm sure I'm not doing something right. Does anyone have any ideas?
