Hi everyone! My name's Andrew and I'm new to this.
I'm a college student who's setting up an apartment, and I'm looking to set up an affordable, quality HT/music setup. I've been poking around online and have been gathering information so I can begin buying componants this summer now that I'm working. Here's what I'm thinking...

Right now, I'm looking at the following two componants:
I think I want a DVD changer so I can use it for movies and music.
I want a well equipped receiver.

I was thinking the Panasonic DVD-CP67 for the changer and either the Panasonic SA-HE200 or SA-XR45. I'm not a Panasonic freak or anything, they just seemed to have good features and be well priced (and were silver and caught my eye... hehe).

What I'm wondering about the receivers is this... The HE200 got good reviews and is larger and offers more componant inputs and outputs, MOSFET, and seemingly an analog amplifier. The XR45 is smaller and slimmer (which I like better, but isn't a real factor), has less connections and has a digital amplifier. There is a difference in THD between the two, also: HE200 is .05% and the XR45 is .9%. What I'm wondering is this... is the digital/analog difference going to have much bearing on the audio quality? And not just for HT but for listening to CDs also... I want HT capabalities which I will use, but I'm going to primarily be using this for music so that's important. Also is the THD difference going to have that much bearing?

Any other componants out there that are $400 or less that are worth looking into? I like the silver but that's just the "ooh wow cool looking" factor... I ultimately want something that sounds the best it can for the money.

Thanks for any input.

Andrew

Not real fond of the Panasonic receivers. In the $400 range for the receiver I would go with either the Yamaha HTR-5650, Marantz SR-4300, Denon AVR-1803, or Onkyo TX-SR500. For the dvd player, the Sony DVP-NS715P should work and goes for $150.
