2 center channelsswgiust
May 3, 2003 7:56 AM
I have a couple of Yamaha M-60 amps that I am
using in my home theater. This leaves me with
an extra channel on the amp that I am using
on my center channel. Has anyone experimented
with 2 center channel speakers? What would
be the good or bad?
thanks.

The result of using two center channel speakers will be severe acoustical interference and dispersion problems at certain frequencies. This is not recommended, a waste of money, and will degrade system performance rather than enhancing it.

I agree with Terrence, but also wanted to point out that some receivers offer facilities for two center speakers. This has lead to some confussion that there may be advantages to using two center speakers. This is not the case... the real purpose for including this option on receivers is to allow those with big screen tv's to use their television's built in speakers as the center channel speaker. This is of course, a matter of convenience and economy (save on the cost of a center channel speaker) but will be inferior to using a dedicated center speaker matched to the front mains. I know this doesn't speak directly to your question, but I felt like it was worth pointing out.
