Problems with 36XBR800matt123
May 7, 2003 1:33 PM
I got Sony 36XBR800 delivered yesterday. When I was
watching CNBC, I noticed that the numbers/characters in
the far left 0.5 inch margin and far right 0.5 inch
margin are little blurred while numbers in rest of the
screen area appear sharp.

Is there something wrong with the unit? The problem
does not seem to occur in top or bottom margin of
the screen.

Thanks in advance
Matt

Does anyone know if this is a manufacturing defect or tuning problem or just a break-in issue?

Thanks.

matt:
No one can say without seeing the "problem" whether it constitutes a manufacturing defect or is to be considered normal. You said in the original post -
i slightly blurred.
Does the CRT in this model have a flat screen or a more conventional slightly curved one? Flat screen CRTs are more difficult to obtain optimum focus and geometry on than curved screen tubes.

One thing I can tell you for sure ... that it's definitely NOT a "break-in" issue. Take a look at some other identical models to yours to compare. If others are definitely better than yours, get yours replaced.

Hope this helps you

I have an XBR450 which has the same problem, but on my TV the left is sharp and the right side is somewhat blurry in comparison. I noticed this whilst playing a videogame. I have already had the TV sent in for repair for a different issue and although the defect I complained about was fixed (geometry issue) the blurr is still apparent on certain texts/screens. Its not always apparent though, so maybe its an invisible defect say 90% of the time for me. Sony have a history of releasing TV's (especially 32" and above CRT's) that have defects similar to this nature.

I also have a niggle about the geometry issue, when watching CNN the text that flows across the bottom of the screen from right to left does a wobbly as it goes across.. its better than it was before repair, but by no means perfect.
