| Progressive scan and 2:3 pulldown | gorilla196635 Nov 6, 2003 4:20 PM | | Hi all, Is there a difference between progressive scan and 2:3 pulldown? I am hearing conflicting information. Also what is the prober way to hook up a DVD player to take advantage of progessive and/or 2:3 pulldown? The 2:3 pulldown is built into the TV. thanks |
| For sure..... | Himanshu Nov 6, 2003 8:30 PM | | Progressive scan and 2:3 pulldown are surely not the same thing. Following is perhaps the best resource for this subject on the entire Web-

The proper (and the only) way to connect the DVD player to TV in order to utlilize Progressive scan feature is to use Component Video cable, provided your DVD player offers the same.
If your TV has an inbuilt "de-interlacer" chip to do line doubling (i.e. progressive scan) and on top of that if that chip has a "film mode detection" (i.e. 2-3 pulldown) then u can do with any DVD player, else u MUST have a progressive scan player. It is to be noted that generally DVD players offer better de-interlacing chips than TV's (although in my Sony WEGA and my Sony NS-730P, I am still not sure, which is better at de-interlacing).
I must say that I myself am rather new to this field and u might as well wait to see what other experts here have to say on this. |
