Hello, I'm coming back into home audio since 1990. Was wondering, im on a tight budget. My old system is out of date (dolby pro logic) just dont want it anymore. What i want a new system, but the problem is money for system coming slow. So first want to buy a receiver, looking at a yamaha 1400 was wondering how this receiver is? Then i have an old polk audio rm5000 system was gonna use? or should i get rid of this system and buy new? Then looking for a powered sub, saw alot of people like the SVS subs? Never heard of these subs? Last time i was looking at subs Velodyne where the best, what happened to them? Any help would be thankfull!!!!!

With your limited funds, you need to set priorities. If you have a prologic unit now, I presume you have 5 speakers for it?
I would recommend upgrading to a modern receiver that will handle the new multi channel formats. Then, as funds are available, you expand.
The SVS is relatively new, and well worth the price. Velodyne is still around and is also a very good sub, a bit more expensive though.

Might I suggest a slightly different route? How about a a Denon AVR-483 ($168.06 from 6ave.com) and a SVS 20-39PC (roughly $625 shipped)? Or see what you can get used or that is open box. SVS subs are excellent! (Got a 20-39CS myself powered by a Samson S700. :D)
