Need Help Picking A Good Receiver...John1974

I need help picking a receiver, I have a Onkyo TX-Sr601 and I am total unhappy with it. First you need to have the thing cranked to have some decent sound, the sub output is real weak on them. These two problem I thought was a defective receiver so I returned it and got a replacemnet and it was total the same. My buddy had a 701 and it was the same so I made the dertermination that it was the way they are made. Music sound like junk, no warmth at all. I have a full set of 2002 Klipsh reference series speakers so I know its not that. Before I purchase the onlyo I bought the JVC 8030 that was rated at 130 x 6 (I dont know why I ever bought this thing) So I was loooking at the Sony Es's and from what the reviews say here that they are severly underrated. How about any help, Sony, Kenwood, Denon, Marantz is a bit high Priced I think I can get a different receiver with more goodies for the price I would pay for a Marantz. Dont get me wrong before I got the Onkyo I had a Onkyo 535 that was only 5.1 I wanted to upgrade I loved the 535 it was soooo sweet and awsome but I dont know what they did with the new line. I even had a sweet JVC that why I went the route as well but nothing worked out.

Marantz and Denon are my personal favorites. Can never go wrong with these.

If money is tight, find an entry model or a last years clearout special. Forget the bells and whistles. Concentrate on solid quality products with basic functions and audio performance.

Forget SONY and Kenwood...low-fidelity.

Marantz,Carver(mabey a good used one),Denon,Outlaw1050,Yamaha. I think it depends on what you want and what upgrades are coming. Im sure upgrades will keep comin im sure someday someone will come out with the 20.1 surround. But for the near/forseable future I think if you buy a good receiver now it should last a long time. I mean when I bought mine I dont really care about anything but a center, sub, left&right fronts, and 2 rear surrounds. Do you(and you may I dont though)really need more? and as far as the surround sound types DTS,DPLII,etc how much more can really come out? So I'd spend the $$ on a good one(within reason) cause I really think it should last you a long time before its obsolete. I dont think its like it was with the dolby surround then a couple years later they have Dolby Digital and stuff making these new surrounds we just bought 2 years ago obsolete. I asked the guy at the Stereo place localy(Klipsch,Denon,Snell,)what he thought and he agreed that sure a few things may come out but nothing that should make a receiver bought now obsolete in 2-3 years.
