| more DIY sub questions | Tarheel_ Nov 11, 2003 7:54 AM | | I have a Kenwood 3-way box speaker (ported). It's divided in half with a port for each side w/(10"woofer,3.5 mid,2"tweet). the thing sounds like crap. So i want to disconnect the mids/tweeters and replace the woofers and use only as a sub.
Questions:
1)Now, can i just replace the woofers w/ a Dayton or Adire?
2)Should i pull out the crossovers?
3)I assume an external amp will then handle the crossover,no?
It will be used on my pontoon so it will be covered, but left in the weather (Spring - Fall).
4)Will these woofers last outdoors, say in an enclosure? |

2)Yeh, make sure your receiver has an internal crossover
3)No regualr power amps will contain a crossover, just use your receiver's.
4)If rain touches the cones they will eventually get ruined, and the box will eventually get ruined if you leave it in the rain without any protection. Make sure no rain touches the enclosure or speaker cones. If you can do that tell me the internal volume of the cabinet, how much power your giving it, what impediance, and price range. And I'm guessing it's just for music so you won't need it to go that low (40-45 hz?).
